A man who spiked treats with sedative and provided them to children at a summer program in the region has confessed to sexual crimes against two children aged nine and ten years old.

The defendant was detained after eight minors and an older person experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in July.

The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, admitted guilt to a series of 17 offences when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was concerning a young boy.

Ruben was held in detention prior to a subsequent court date on 28 November.

'Sweet game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, detailed the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.

She stated his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a youth camp which he ran.

Ruben conducted a "candy game" with the minors, the legal counsel explained, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".

She told the court the defendant had played this game with the boys "for many years", and minors had previously become sick the next day.

She stated Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had worries in recently.

The legal representative continued: "In the summer" his stepson had suspicions about the activities, with valid cause.

"They decided to examine in the man's possessions."

The legal counsel explained materials including lubricant, petroleum jelly and syringes were found, and his stepson notified the police about his worries.

She stated the man proceeded to engage in the "candy game" with six children that night - that Saturday - and they were everyone unwell the following morning.

"Law enforcement" had not gone out by that point," she added.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, previously told that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

Mrs Prior explained the youngsters were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the stepson contacted the police a second time.

She explained Ruben then engaged in the "sweet game" in a space of five youngsters.
